Common vehicles that pass on the highway are cars, motorcycles, trucks, and buses. But sometimes, heavy vehicles such as forklifts are also seen driving on public roads.
In fact, forklifts actually function as vehicles to lift heavy goods in warehouses or ports. Then, can this be done?
Can Forklifts Pass on Highways?
Responding to this, the Head of the Sub-Directorate for Guidance and Law Enforcement of the Traffic Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya, Adjunct Senior Commissioner of Police Budiyanto, said that freedom to drive on public roads is also given to all types of vehicles.
However, these vehicles must be designed to be driven on asphalt roads. In addition, the weight also must not exceed the rules that have been determined for use on the highway.
"As long as they have vehicle documents, the driver has a driver's license (SIM) and there are no prohibition signs, that's fine," he told VIVA.co.id, Thursday, January 5 2017.
If a violation is found, the police are ready to take firm action. The enforcement, according to Budiyanto, varies greatly, depending on the violation committed by the driver.
"For example, if you violate traffic signs, you will be subject to Article 287 of Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning road traffic and transportation. The penalty is imprisonment for two months or a fine of up to IDR 500,000," he explained.
If the driver does not have a SIM that matches the type of vehicle, then it is deemed to have violated Article 281 of law number 22 of 2009 concerning road traffic and transportation.
"The penalty is four months' imprisonment or a maximum fine of Rp. 1 million. So, it's the same as an ordinary driver," he said.
